We had a lovely conversation about it last week, but it didn't go in the direction I was expecting. It became rather uplifting and upbeat. I think we'll have to take steps to address that in the course of today's program.

about the, why does Russia, why do Russian interests seek to influence Western elections

on such an epic scale and why are they spending so much money trying to do so?

We'll probably have a look at that.

And a story that may well lend itself

to a slightly more optimistic vision of the future.

So plenty to get through today.

I'm going to start with British Steel,

and can I take a moment to tell you why?

I think it's probably the most important story in town.

If you are one of the near 25,000 people

who will have woken up this morning worrying about

whether or not you're going to have a job by the end of the week,

then it is almost certainly the most important story in town.

For the rest of us, without an immediate personal investment in the situation or in the story,

it is, well, obviously not as urgent an issue, but the reason why I think it's the biggest story in town

is because of all of the strands of politics and business that it knits together um as you know
