Picture a capital city with every urban problem. It's sprawling, overcrowded, gridlocked and with pollution so bad you can taste it. Like now I just only took short walks from station to bus stop, but already feel how can I say I need to

wash my face now. Many cities are plagued with these issues but Indonesia's

capital is facing a battle like no other.

Well, at the moment, Jakarta is the fastest sinking city in the world.

Jakarta was built in a delta of 13 rivers on swampy land,

making it incredibly vulnerable to the global issue of rising sea levels.

Indonesia's government was grappling with a highly complex problem and their next

step would be guided by the answer to these questions.

Would you try to fix it or would you be tempted to start again?

President Jokowododo wants to replace Jakarta, which he says is polluted, overcrowded and

sinking into the ground with a new modern economic hub called Miss Santara.

Smart, sustainable, green, you name it, all the good things will happen in the santara.

The government opted for the more bold approach.

A brand new capital city in a completely different location is the pet project of outgoing president, Jokoi Dotto also known as Jokoi.

The chosen spot is more than a thousand kilometers away from Jakarta.

It's intended to be a fast forest city, spread out over an area that is double

the size of New York City.

The new capital will be built from scratch in the rainforest of Borneo.

But the project, which is one of the most ambitious of its kind in history, has been dogged by setbacks,

a lack of investment, and the firing of top officials.

When the project was first announced in 2019, the president set the goal of moving the

first resident by this year, 2024.
