I'm a total Ezra fan girl.

Ezra spoke with the head of the Public Religion Research Institute and the author of

The End of White Christian America, Robert Jones. During their convo

about the demographic changes that drove racist white evangelical Christian voters to embrace

wife discarding porn star fucking non-church going pussy grabbing rapist Donald Trump, Klein and Jones

discussed the rise of the nuns. That's N-O-N-E-S, not N-U-N-S. These are people who report no religious affiliation

at all. Nuns now make up close to 25% of the population, a huge spike over the last decade.

There are actually more nuns out there than evangelical Christians. Now, if only we could

get the nuns to vote as reliably as the

evangelicals do. But anyway, young people are four times likelyer to be nuns. 40% of people under 30

are nuns and many young nuns are actually former evangelicals. So why are they leaving their churches?

Joan says the political partisanship of evangelical churches is one big reason, but it is not the only reason.

We asked them the reason they left, about a third of them, cite specifically negative treatment or gay and lesbian people or negative teachings about gay and lesbian people as a reason why they left.

So that's one way in which I think a very

particular, you know, and prominent issue on the political right came to be at odds with,

you know, the younger generation. What Jones said there certainly jibes with something LGBT activists

have long said. Young people are more likely to know gay people,

and as a result, they're less likely to be homophobic. And when forced to choose between their gay
