I woke up this morning and did what I always do first thing in the morning.

I picked up my phone and I looked at Twitter.

Twitter, oh my God, it brings out the worst in people.

And yet it is the last thing I look at every night before I fall asleep.

And the first thing I look at every morning when I get up and I blame Catholicism.

My family's faith tradition, it induces a certain masochism that, you know, you really just have to embrace because there's no fighting it.

And the first tweet I read in my masochistic fugue this

morning, well, first parotweets were from Nate Silver at 538. It's a dead heat. And the latest

polling is consistent with the Clinton lead of only 1% nationally state firewall breaking up trend lines awful.

That was painful. That hurt. And then over to Josh Marshall at Talking Points Memo,

seeking some comfort, seeking perhaps some unskewing of the polls where I read this.

Beneath these numbers, we see a persistent trend almost everywhere.

Clinton does better in a head-to-head race than in a multiple candidate race where Johnson and Stein are added.

That's great for Clinton.

Josh Marshall continues, until you consider that in most but not all states, Johnson and Stein are on the ballot. All right,

they say, and here's hoping they're right, that people who say that they're voting for third

party candidates, the closer you get to election day, the tighter the race gets, the less likely

they are to actually, in the end, vote for those third party candidates. Hopefully Clinton

will scoop up most of those people. And I'm just going to hope that's the case while trying not to dwell too much on the 2000 race when that wasn't the case. I'm not dwelling because even though Pod is legal here in Washington State, I want to leave some for other people to enjoy. Anyway, you know what? Actually, the top of this week's show is we're getting closer to the election. I didn't want to talk about the election or the debate last night. I can't actually talk about the debate on Monday night because we recorded today's show on Monday morning.
