So it was Pride this weekend in Seattle and in New York and in a lot, if not most other places.

Some places have their pride parades and celebrations earlier in June than others.

But the big one, big pride parades, the big commemoration is this weekend,

roughly the weekend of the 25th, 26th, around there every year. Last year, something we have to

celebrate this year, Obergefell, the ruling legalizing same-sex marriage in all 50 states,

came down right before pride. We're celebrating the one-year anniversary of that. And this

weekend we got to celebrate thanks to Barack Obama and the White House and his administration, the designation

of the first National Park Service unit dedicated to telling the story of LGBT Americans.

Barack Obama, his administration, designated the Stonewall Inn site of the Stonewall riots in 1969

that kicked the already out there, already happening, movement for rights for homosexuals, into high

gear, really kicked off the modern LGBT civil rights movement designated the Stonewall Inn,

site of those riots as a national landmark.

It will be preserved. There will be exhibitions. It will be forever protected. The new Stonewall National

Monument, I'm reading from the White House press release, will permanently protect Christopher Park,

a historic community park at the intersection of Christopher Street, West 4th Street, and Grove Street,

directly across the Street and the Stonewall Inn.

And the Monuments Boundaries encompasses approximately 7.7 acres of land, including the Stonewall

Inn, Christopher Park, the surrounding streets and sidewalks that were the site of the 1969

Stonewall Uprising.
