Gal Collins is not bad columnist in New York Times, and she is terrific and if you're not reading her, you should start.

She had one this weekend on Saturday in Saturday's paper titled, and now Political Virgins.

There's so much stupid that Gall unpackes in this column. I really can't cover it all.

It starts in Texas where a state legislator is forcing the state to move $3 million

that had been set aside for HIV prevention and treating other sexually transmitted diseases,

taking that money from those

effective programs and wasting it on abstinence-only sex education.

Despite the fact that abstinence-only sex education doesn't work, despite the fact that Texas

already spends millions of dollars on abstinence-only sex ed, and California, which spends nothing

on abstinence-only, has an And California, which spends nothing on abstinence only,

has an STI infection rate and HIV infection rate, half as large as Texas is. So Texas is going

to keep doing what it's doing even though it's not working. That's the stupid that she starts

with. But she unpacked so much stupid in this column. And she brings up something that puts into perspective a number I tossed out here on the

Lovecast a couple of weeks ago.

I said there were 100 anti-gay laws, anti-queer laws, anti-trans, bathroom laws, moving through

various Republican-dominated state legislatures all across the country.

And in this really brilliant column where gal pivots from stupid to stupid to stupid to
