October 7th also happens to be my birthday.

My birthday doesn't always fall on a podcast day, but this year it did.

And this Tuesday, October 7th, also happens to be a significant birthday.

I am turning, holy fucking shit.

I am 50 this Tuesday.

I'm already getting hate mail about it, which is, you know, what people do.

They send you hate mail. Making fun of is, you know, what people do. They send you hate mail.

Making fun of me for turning 50, for being old, for being an old faggot. And people are saying this to me in hate mail to be hateful. Also with this assumption that this makes me very sad to be 50. And I just want to say to these people that you have no idea.

You have no idea how delighted I am to be turning 50.

And what a privilege it is for a gay man of my generation to turn 50, to be here, to be this old.

Do you know how many dead guys I know, guys I know who died in their 20s and 30s

who would love to be here still and pushing or turning or having pushed or turned 50 already?

Hundreds of thousands of gay men died in the 80s. Hundreds of thousands died. Many of them, dozens and dozens, guys I knew,

my peers, boyfriends, good friends, close friends, Crystal Lane, a performer here in Seattle,

but it did shows with amazing drag queen, singer, an MC, died. Crystal would love to be here, turning 50. Crystal probably would have

turned 50 a few years ago. Had Crystal not died. So I am delighted. It is a privilege. And I'm not

sad about this. I have a lot of anniversaries coming up in the next few weeks, few years.
