And a few months ago, your boyfriend of 19 years husband, common law husband, won the right for you to come on the show and take a couple of questions. And you were so awesome. We wanted to have you back. And today, we recorded this a couple of weeks ago, but today,

a very special thing happened. The FDA approved the first prophylactic drug regimen for people

who are HIV negative that can theoretically protect them from HIV infection called Truvuda.

Truvada. Truvada, like Nevada, but true.

True.

And it's slightly controversial, and I was wondering if you could bring my listeners up to

speed on this drug.

Oh, goodness.

Yes.

So this is actually one of the most exciting things to come out in the HIV world.

We also do HIV medicine in the clinic, so I'm one of the specialists there.

But this is super exciting because this is just another tool that we can use in the toolkit

in HIV prevention.

But it's essentially, it's two of the medications that you would normally take if you actually

had HIV, two of the ones that are actually contained in this thing called Truvada.

And you take it once a day.

And the idea is that you're

supposed to practice safe sex as well and try not to get HIV, but it can reduce your risk.
