Matthew 9:35 - 10:1, 5, 6-8 - 'The harvest is rich but the labourers are few.'

- 2611 (In 'Jesus teaches us how to pray') - The prayer of faith consists not only in saying “Lord, Lord,” but in disposing the heart to do the will of the Father. Jesus calls his disciples to bring into their prayer this concern for cooperating with the divine plan.

0:00.0	Hi everyone. Welcome back to today's podcast, and we're going to get straight into the reading for today.
0:16.4	So as always, we're looking at the gospel reading from today's Mass.
0:20.0	And today, if you go to
0:20.9	Mass, you would hear from Matthew chapter 9, verse 35, and then chapter 10 verses 1, 5, 6, 7, and 8.
0:30.9	So essentially we have here the last part of Matthew chapter 9 and the first part of Matthew
0:35.8	chapter 10, but with a few verses in the
0:38.1	middle there taken out. So here's the reading. Jesus made a tour through all the towns and villages
0:44.2	teaching in their synagogues proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing all kinds of
0:50.2	diseases and sickness. And when he saw the crowds, he felt sorry for them because they were
0:56.1	harassed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples,
1:02.5	the harvest is rich, but the labourers are few. So ask the Lord of the harvest to send laborers to his
1:09.8	harvest. He summoned his 12 disciples and gave
1:14.0	them authority over unclean spirits with power to cast them out and to cure all kinds of diseases
1:20.1	and sickness. These 12 Jesus sent out, instructing them as follows, go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
1:30.1	And as you go, proclaim that the kingdom of heaven is close at hand.
1:34.8	Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out devils.
1:40.1	You received without charge, give without charge.
1:45.4	So that's the reading we're looking at today from Matthew.
