Attorney General Merrick Garland says, assigning Jack Smith a special prosecutor to oversee

two ongoing criminal probes concerning Donald Trump is the right thing to do.

I am confident that this appointment will not slow the completion of these investigations.

And the Attorney General's move comes only days after Trump announced that he's making

another run for the White House.
