The war with Iran entering a critical new phase, and this morning more American ships

and U.S. Marines are heading to the Middle East as the conflict moves into its fourth week.

ABC News, foreign correspondent Tom Sufi Burrage is in Jerusalem tracking all the developments.

Yeah, and a major sign of where this war could be heading next, the U.S. sending thousands more Marines, amphibious landing ships, an additional firepower to this region.

President Trump's saying that critical waterway, the Strait of Hormuz, could be reopened with a, quote, simple

military maneuver. But Iran's still able to fire missiles and drones at U.S. allies in the Gulf and at targets

here in Israel. This morning, thousands of additional U.S. Marines and sailors heading to the Middle East,

as President Trump weighs up options to try and break Iran's stranglehold over the critical

Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. officials confirming a second Marine Expeditionary Unit is now being deployed to the region.

Three amphibious ships which can land troops on shore seem departing San Diego this week.

In total, 9,000 additional sailors and marines and considerable firepower are set to arrive in the coming days,

fueling speculation of a possible ground operation into Iran.
