Welcome to the Saturday Examine.

Our reflections this week have had elements of following and watching Jesus in his ministry.

As you prepare for prayer today, imagine that you are sitting with the Lord as his disciple,

perhaps as close as Mary of Bethany as she sat at his feet, listening to his every word.

Notice anything that is distracting you, and gently lay it aside for later,

so that you can focus on the Lord.

As you begin your prayer, try to move from the thoughts in your head

to the loving silence of your heart, ready to listen to the Lord.

As you recall your week now, remember a moment when you felt closest to him.

Now recall a time or event when you felt very distant from him.

Offer both these moments to the Lord.

Now a line will be read from each of our scriptures from the past week.

As you listen, notice which one most speaks to your heart today.

When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him,

he said, I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.

When the Lord saw her, he had compassion for her, and said to her, do not weep.

He was revealed in flesh, vindicated in spirit, seeing by angels, proclaimed among Gentiles,

believed in throughout the world, taken up in glory.

As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth,

and he said to him, follow me, and he got up and followed him.

To what then will I compare the people of this generation, and what are they like?

As you continue to sit at the feet of Jesus, spend a while with the verse that has most spoken to you
