I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, youngest of five kids, so big family and everybody loved music.

the soundtrack of our lives. For the last 16 years, Sandra McCracken's been carving out a life,

writing and recording music. Her records have always had their roots in Americana, but they range

from the sparse and straightforward songs of Gypsy Flat Road to the dense and

surprising arrangements of desire-like dynamite.

She's also recorded several albums of songs for the church, both original songs and old hymns

set to new melodies.

The variety in her catalog reflects the variety of the music in her house, especially the

contrast between the music of her father and her mother.

The counterpoint is so different. My mom, like, listen to church music. And my dad still loves the loudest rock and roll he can find favoring kind of blues and even kind of ska music
