But we begin with an item which throws light on the very much current subject of immigration

into the United States. Donald Trump arrived at the White House

promising to build a war between the US and Mexico and to throw out undocumented or

illegal immigrants. That threat of deportation has been hanging over the so-called

illegals for decades, but at the same time some protection from deportation has been offered

in what have become known as sanctuary cities where the authorities

limit their cooperation with federal immigration officials and refuse most requests to detain

or report undocumented immigrants.

Now though that status faces a challenge from President Trump, who has said he will cut

funding to these cities if they don't change their ways.

Simon Watts has been looking back at how San Francisco became one of the first

of these sanctuary cities.
