Samsung workers are on strike. Well, kind of.

Good morning. Thanks for tuning in to the Marketplace Morning Report from the BBC World Service.

I'm Leanna Byrne.

Yet this one needs a bit of explaining. Workers belonging to the largest union of the tech giant Samsung

have gone on strike over a pay dispute and it's a big deal because it's the first

time workers there downed tools ever. But it might not be a walk-out in the way or you or I

would know the BBC's Nick Marsh has the details. We are seeing a dispute over pay

and bonuses the main union wants bigger pay rises it wants bonuses to be paid, it wants an extra day of annual leave.

They haven't been able to come to an agreement with the bosses at Samsung Electronics, so they have told their members 28,000 of them to not quite

go on strike as me and you might understand it but actually to take a day of paid leave today

Today is a Friday after a national holiday so it's a day when a lot of people would take leave anyway

But the idea is to sort of disrupt operations as much as they can while not fully

going on strike.

Nick Marsh there. Okay, have you seen baby reindeer? It's that British comedy drama released in April that

claimed to be a true story and it's a global hit for Netflix. Now the woman who

says she's the inspiration for an abusive character portrayed in the film is suing the streaming giant for

defamation and 170 million dollars in damages.

Netflix says it intends to vigorously defend itself.
