Welcome to another bonus episode of Calm History.

This is part three of the true story, the Great Prison Tunnel Escape of 1864.

already, then I'll remind you what has happened. In the prior episode, the prisoners got down

to the planning and digging of the tunnel. They were now nearing their goal by digging in night shifts and also day shifts.

They'd even figured out a way to trick the guards, so the guards didn't notice that the diggers

were missing during daytime headcounts.

But I hadn't yet told you what that big trick was yet.

In this episode, I'll reveal their big trick, which worked great until something unexpected

happened.

As a result, the digging of the tunnel slows down.

And to further challenge them,

some guards start snooping around in the basement where the tunnel is.

This creates a crisis for the escape team, so they quickly come up with a new plan.
