stories of perseverance, positivity, and more. Now, here's Martha McCallum. During World War II,

many young men volunteered to serve in the war, and for most of them, they had little to know experience, including Sam Folsom, who as far as he knows is the last living World War II Marine Combat Pilot.

Sam is 99 years old, and he remembers every detail of those flights.

Our producer sat down with Sam, where he shared his incredible untold story.

Well, at that time, I was already in the Navy.

I was about 20.

I served in the Navy for a year as a reserve officer and went to flight training

and I ought to go to a flight training. I had to at that moment, any reserve officer who wanted to fly

had to start again. So I was an ensign in the Navy on active duty, resigned my commission,

went to flight school, and came out as a Marine. You didn't have a lot of hours of training

before combat. Can you tell me about that? Well, I had about 200 hours in flight training,

which was standard for a cadet.

And then I went to California to Miramar and had a total of about 30 hours, 25 or 30 hours.

In three months, flight training was not available.
