Summary

Pastor Grant brought our House back from Sabbath by introducing a new collection of talks, ‘Open House.’ Sharing from Matthew 5:13-16, Grant reiterates that we are here to be a preservative to the goodness that was modeled by Jesus and reflectors of the marvelous light of God. So, we seek reconciliation, not retaliation. We resist greed through generosity. And finally, we submit to authority rather than rebelling against it.

0:18.0	Well, we're starting a new series today called Open House.
0:22.0	I'm excited about that. We're going to be looking at the Sermon on the Mount, which is found Matthews 5, Matthew 5,
0:29.0	and a little bit of chapter 7. It's 106 verses, so I hope you came ready.
0:34.0	No, I'm just kidding. We're not going to cover all 160. We're really primarily just going to look at three of them.
0:39.0	Let me read it for you. You can follow along if you like Matthew 5.
0:43.0	Beginning in verse 13 down through verse 16.
0:46.0	It will be familiar verses for many of us.
0:49.0	Jesus speaking says, in his great manifesto, in the greatest sermon ever preached, beginning in verse 13,
0:55.0	you are the salt of the earth. But if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored?
1:05.0	It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.
1:11.0	You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
1:16.0	Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand.
1:20.0	And it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others,
1:27.0	so that they may see your good works and give glory to your father, who is in heaven.
1:33.0	I love those verses of Eugene Peterson and his paraphrase of these verses.
1:39.0	It says it this way at the very end, and you'll see the name of our text of our series wrapped up in this.
1:45.0	Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand, shine.
1:51.0	Keep open house and be generous with your lives.
1:55.0	By opening up to others, you're prompt people to open up with God.
