Welcome to Lockdown Warriors, your daily podcast on all things, Warriors, part of the

0:15.7

Lockdown Podcast Network.

0:17.0

I'm your host, West Goldberg Warriors writer for the Mercury News, and I'm joined by one of my

0:20.9

most trusted salary cap experts. Jeff Siegel, founder of early bird rights.com and someone I go to

0:26.6

any time I have a salary cap related questions. Jeff, thanks for joining me. I know we've been

0:32.7

talking a little bit back and forth this morning on Twitter about some of the impacts that

0:38.4

the loss in basketball revenue could have on the salary cap. I know you had some thoughts

0:42.9

on, you know, maybe some potential estimates. What do you think that the league is considering

0:48.8

and how do you kind of see this playing out, if at all? I know that few people have any answers

1:20.3

sort of the key thing that a lot of people are talking about but it's very sort of weird to wrap your

1:25.9

head around if the 2019-20 total BRI drops,

1:31.1

that doesn't necessarily mean next year's projected BRI drops. Like, let's say the rest of this

1:36.5

season is canceled and they lose out on, you know, billions of dollars in revenue. Well, that doesn't

1:41.9

mean that next year is going to also have that same thing because, you know, presumably that would mean that all of next year will happen and therefore they will have a full complement of revenue to use to pay the players.

1:54.0

So that would be a situation where the salary cap for next year would not be affected because the projected revenue would

2:01.7

remain where they thought it would going into next year.

2:05.6

You know, obviously this thing, this pandemic, if it lasts into the fall and all of a sudden
