This week on the business, AFRA approves their deal with producers, and SAG goes back to the negotiating table.

Is peace at hand in Hollywood?

Don't bet on it.

Today, a rare head-to-head talk between the leaders of the two estranged actors' unions.

It's the first time they've really spoken since March.

But first, it's the Hollywood News Caravan.

Go nowhere, it's the business from NPR.

With After throwing an iced coffee into the face of SAG by ratifying their contract,

despite the larger actor guild's efforts to sink it, Hollywood's

producers last week tore open a packet of Splenda and sprinkled it on the whole mess.

Producers offered the actors a sweetener, telling SAG that the pay increases in their last,

best, and final offer of $250 million over three years would be retroactive to July 1st, as long as SAG would ratify the

contract by August 15th. That's $10 million more than their last, last best and final offer.

If SAG ratifies the contract by August 1st, they get a bag of Skittles. More, much more, about SAG and Aftera coming up in a bit.

Elsewhere, last week saw the resurgence of the irascible new line founder, Bob Shea, after being

let loose by corporate parent Time Warner earlier this year. In his first interview about his new

film venture to the LA Times, he called his new company, unique features, quote,

a very democratic company. I'm expecting the receptionist to be as prescient about the marketplace
