In this talk, Jeremy Summerlee, director of music at St Peter's College, Oxford,

explores our Henry and the 8th used music to shape his own image

and consolidate the Reformation in England.

Pretty.

I mean, ludicrously so, really, I have a really visceral response to the way in which these manuscripts look.

This particular one is not very far away. It's in Eaton College, and it's unique in

manuscripts of pre-Reformation. It's the only one that's still in the place for which it was

designed. So it was copied in Eaton College at the beginning of the 16th century, and it's still

the name is next to this day. I've only seen it once.

It's difficult to describe what it looks like in the flesh,

but I do find it profoundly moving.

In terms of the size of it, I mean, I've got a facsimile over here,

which you're welcome to look at afterwards.
