Lewis loved a healthy intellectual brawl, and I would have liked to see how he might respond to this book.

It is great fun to watch Lewis tilt at scholarly windmills in his non-fiction, because there is almost always something to learn from him, and occasionally he scores a hit.

Win or lose, it is a fight worth watching.

Pints with Jack. And yet his approach to Pints with Jack. And.S. Lewis is probably one of the best known Christian apologists of the 20th century, and yet his

approach to faith and scripture can sometimes be surprising. For example, the first time I ever

read mere Christianity, I remember realizing that there was actually only one direct scriptural

reference in the entire book. It appears very early

on in a footnote, simply relating the origin of the name Christian. That's surprising.

More importantly, though, many times I've seen people in online groups be scandalized when they

discover Lewis's views on the Bible and on

inerrancy, realizing that they don't quite match their own. We haven't delved too much into the
