Sunday, April 9, 1995 was a chilly morning in Slatington, Pennsylvania.

It was Palm Sunday, and the air was crisp but clear, the temperature of steady 40 degrees,

when Paul Kovichik decided to plow his field.

As he drove his tractor past a thicket of woods, he noticed a pile of what looked like trash

to him amongst the trees.

This wouldn't have been the first time that trash had been dumped in that part of the woods.

A trail ran straight past where the mound was, a trail that was popular with joggers and folks on horseback.

Local kids liked to hang out in the woods.

And in the past, someone had discarded their mail there.

And the place was

usually crawling with hunters during deer and small game season. So yeah, Refuse sometimes got left

behind, and it irritated him. Kovicich got off his tractor to take a look. As he approached the

pile, he realized he could make out his shape. Maybe he thought it was a scarecrow.

It wasn't until he came right up to the jumble of clothing

that he saw the boots, the long, dark, curly hair, and what remained of a face.

It was the body of a woman, and she wasn't alone.

Perched on top of her body was a small frame.

It was an infant, dressed in a blue winter sleeper,

laying face down on his mother's tummy.

His arms were extended, one tiny fist exposed to the elements.
