Hello everyone and welcome to the Focus Group podcast.

I'm Sarah Longwell, publisher of the bulwark.

And this week, I'm bringing you a bit of a smorgasbord of Focus Groupery.

We could call it an authoritarian smorgas board.

We got a lot of stuff to get through.

First, we are going to check in with certain swing voters' queasiness about the Trump administration broadly before we dig in on Trump's attempt to deploy the National Guard in Chicago.

And then we're going to break down this new dynamic that has emerged on the right in the

aftermath of Charlie Kirk's death. We are talking to lots of groups on the right, and we're

seeing a very clear pattern that I guess I would call sort of right-wing cancel culture, both online

and by our government. And the Trump administration has really, really gotten in on the

canceling. They are the cancelers in chief. And so that's going to be a big part of today's conversation.

Because while the right was very much into free speech and state's rights, then they realized

I think that they care more about power

than principles, or also maybe just these voters do not understand free speech. It's unclear.
