earn the label, Crime of the Century.

But the stories that made headlines in decades past aren't necessarily remembered today.

I'm Amber Hunt, a journalist, an author, and in each episode of this show,

I'll examine a case that's maybe lesser known today, but was huge when it happened.

Thank you. This is Crimes of the Centuries. October 1, 1976, a sunny afternoon in San Diego, California.

Lefteria Osborne, everyone called her Lisa, was 33 years old, a Turkish immigrant and mother

of three who had just ended her shift at a clothing manufacturer, where she worked as a seamstress.

It was a slow day at work, so she was sent home more than two hours early.

This would have been better news if Lisa had had a car,

but she and her husband Darwin shared, and Darwin was at his own job.

He wasn't set to pick her up until 5 p.m.

To kill time waiting for Darwin, Lisa took a bus to go to a shopping center

and then circled back to the

designated meeting spot where she expected her husband was already waiting for her. As she

made her way through a supermarket parking lot, the sun still shining, a car U-turned and blocked her

path. A man jumped out. Dark glasses covered half his face.

Lisa wasn't alarmed at first, but then she saw a knife in his hand.

The man forced Lisa into his car, taped her hands behind her back and growled.

Don't say nothing.
