I'd like to first launch into a call. The following is Alvira's call from Parts Unknown.

Hi, Derek. This is Alvira. Again, this is my second call that I'm contributing to the show. Again, just want to say awesome show, love it, listen to it almost every day now. This story came in after I heard another caller bring up a hometown legend of La Yorana. So this didn't happen to me, however, it did happen to my grandfather.

He has now passed, and my grandma told me the story of his encounter with La Yerona.

Now, my grandfather was born in Mexico, where this legend is very, very prevalent.

I know it's pretty much spread throughout, like, the southwest and God knows where else.

But anyway, so the variations that I've heard, the ones that I think kind of stopped with me because there are several different variations of how this

uh weeping or wailing woman uh has come to be is that something about her wanting to get

married to this very wealthy rich man um and this very wealthy rich man you know she was

extremely in love with him however he did not want to marry her because she had children.

So her way of, you know, being able to be in love with this man was to get rid of her children.

So this is how the story is supposedly this variation came to be where she drowns her children in order to not have kids.

You know, that way the man will love her and be with her.

She does so, and the man finds out about this, and I guess is completely disgusted by her for

having done this and doesn't want to be with her.

So it kind of backfired, you know, now she doesn't have the guy,

she doesn't have the kids, so she's, you know, kind of roaming about Earth, wailing for her kids
