| 0:00.0 | Hey, this is a year in the Bible with Daily Grace. I'm Shelby and I'm here with CJ. |
| 0:10.9 | CJ, we're starting two new books. First and second, Samuel. |
| 0:15.6 | Excited to walk through these books. Before we hop into today's chapters, 1 Samuel 1 through 3, |
| 0:22.3 | I'm wondering if you can just give us an overview. What should we keep in mind as we read |
| 0:26.4 | First and Second Samuel? Yeah, so First and Second Samuel comes after Joshua, judges, Ruth, |
| 0:32.3 | and here we are. And a thing to keep in mind is we left off towards the end of judges |
| 0:38.9 | with this refrain. |
| 0:42.3 | There's no king, and everyone did it was right in their own eyes. |
| 0:48.0 | Then we get to Ruth, and at the very end, we learn about some of David's ancestors. |

| 1:17.4 | recognize, and she's barren. And each year they'd go and visit the temple. And one time Hannah |
| 1:23.9 | prays to the Lord in the temple. And she says, Lord, if you give me a child, I will |
| 1:28.6 | dedicate him to you. And this might actually remind us of Jephtha, where Jephtha was doing it for |
| 1:34.8 | maybe ambitious reasons and for selfish reasons, but Hannah desperately wants a child, and she's |
| 1:42.7 | willing to offer him back up to the Lord. |
| 1:47.4 | So eventually the Lord opens up her womb and gives her a child. |
| 1:51.2 | And then Eli, who's the priest, he sees Hanon. |
