Hey, this is Shelby and Paul. We're taking you through the book of Second Kings. We're going to talk through chapters 10 through 12 today. Paul, how do these chapters begin?

Yeah, so we get the conclusion of Jayhu taking out Ahab's family. And we get an interesting evaluation of Jehu in the

midst of this. It tells us that he did good to eliminate Ba'al worship, but that he still worshipped

the golden calves in Bethel and Dan. And so he received some favor from God. It says that four

generations of his sons will sit on the throne.

But the final assessment is that he did not turn from the sin of Jeroboam, the first king of the

north who built the golden calves. And so he had great zeal for destroying the Baal worshippers,

but he was still half-hearted. He still wasn't pursuing the Lord rightly. And already, I get

convicted by that sometimes of, hey, in what ways am I super zealous for God, zealous for truth,

zealous for the Bible? And yet, sometimes I miss God himself, right? It makes me think,

honestly, of 1st Corinthians 13, where Paul talks about love and he's talking

about spiritual gifts. And all of these spiritual gifts prophecy and teaching and, you know, the many

different other gifts that he lists, he says, they're all useless without love. And scripture also

tells us that God is love. And so it makes me wonder, hey, in my pursuit of truth and my pursuit of the things of God,

am I doing it with love?

Am I doing it in the spirit and the heart of Christ?

Or am I being like Jehu and doing it almost in a flippant way?

Yeah, that is a really challenging question.

Kings, it feels like a book that is constantly breaking my heart over the actions of the people

and also convicting me of my own sin. Are you feeling that way? Yes, yeah. For sure, yes.
