we're reading Acts 1034 through 1130. I know it's long, but if you did Year of the Word last year,

you can totally handle it. And in today's episode, we're tackling

a big question. And the question is, how should we understand tongues in the context of Acts 10?

Have you ever noticed that when something historically significant happens, there's usually some kind of public

moment surrounding it. We cut ribbons in front of new buildings. We throw launch parties for companies,

products. Teams pop champagne when they send championships. Presidents stand behind podiums to sign historic legislation.

Here in Dallas, when the Mavs unveiled the statue of Dirk at American Airlines,

they didn't just quietly place the statue there overnight and hope people noticed eventually.

No, there was an unveiling ceremony before the Christmas Day game.

Fans gathered, former teammates were present, speeches were given,

Dirk and his son pulled the lever to reveal the statue.

Why?

Because ceremonies and public markers help people recognize that something big is happening. It's important. They

clarify the significance of the event. And honestly, that's part of what's happening with tongues

in the Book of Acts. When modern readers hear the word tongues, we might often be tempted to jump to

debates surrounding spiritual

gifts or questions about how tongues function today. But if we slow down and pay attention to

where tongues specifically appear in acts, a pattern starts to emerge. Tongues repeatedly show up as major turning points in the spread of the gospel.

They're markers that I identify. Something new and exciting is happening. This passage is also a great
