Summary

This episode answers the major questions surrounding baptism. Considering Acts 2, Emma Dotter and her guest, Tyler Moffett, bring clarity to doctrinal issues such as, “Do I need to get baptized?” and “Is baptism necessary for salvation?” This discussion doesn’t stop there but calls maturing believers to their next step of obedience regarding baptism. Then, to wrap up we examine Peter’s statement in Acts 2:40, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” Is salvation up to you? Can you really save yourself? Listen to dig into this interpretive challenge.

Then, for the next six days, we’ll return to the same passage with fresh focus, exploring insights about who God is and how we can enjoy him more deeply. Monday through Saturday, we’ll approach the same passage from a different perspective each day—whether observation, interpretation, prayer, or another spiritual practice—to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for God’s Word. Then, watch or listen to the video podcast to tackle the week's toughest verses and discover key historical, theological, and practical insights.

All right, all right. Join the Journey family, friends, and guests. You're listening to Join the Journey podcast with your host, Emma, daughter. Thanks for joining this week. We are reading Acts 2, 22 through 41, and the first question we'll be answering is, what is baptism? And here with me today is the Porches director of discipleship, Tyler Moffitt.

0:22.8

That's great to be here.

0:23.9

Tyler, great to have you.

0:26.4

Hey, before we jump in, I just want to make a quick clarification. We're talking about baptism.

0:31.6

And in the center of this diagram, the innermost circle are the essentials of the faith, that we are saved by faith

0:38.8

in Jesus alone, not by works. But then the next circle is convictions. And as we talk about

0:45.7

baptism, that's the circle we're living in. But in this episode, we're going to be primarily

0:51.4

focusing on what we at Watermark believe about baptism.

0:55.4

So Tyler, with that in mind, why are we talking about baptism today?

1:00.1

Yeah, it's a good question, and it's an interesting topic, and it comes right out of the text that we read this week.

1:06.3

Acts chapter 2, one of my favorite chapters in the Bible. And to sum up the context, the spirits

1:23.3

We're not drunk. We're not drunk. And then he preaches the gospel message in what I had put next to my Bible, Peter 2.0.

1:30.5

This is like new Peter.

1:32.0

He's not ashamed anymore.

1:33.3

He's new.

1:34.2

And we really see the second half of his gospel message.

1:37.7

And the people from all nations that are watching this and actually cut to the heart.

1:43.1

So Peter uses multiple Old Testament references to

1:46.1

prove. He says, this Jesus is the Messiah. And then he says, actually, you guys are the ones

1:52.1

who crucified him and you're going to be held account. And then it says after that, they're cut to the
