Letter number two, we are family.

Pints with Jack is your weekly CS-Lewis podcast, where David, Andrew, and I break down and discuss

the works of C.S. Lewis. This season, we are eavesdropping on the correspondence of a senior

demon screw tape as he explains how to tempt the patient, a human assigned to be tempted by

screw tape's nephew, Wormwood. Each week we'll be considering

a different letter, untwisting screwtap's hellish logic, informing a battle plan for our own

spiritual lives. So David, welcome. How have you been? I've been well. I've been well. I'm excited about today's letter. So listeners will remember that last week we had on a guest co-host, Trent Horn. I'm very pleased to announce that his son has now been born, made an appearance into the world. I'll include a link in the show notes to Trent's own podcast,

where he describes the circumstances under which his latest child entered the world.

And appropriately enough, the title for today's episode is We Are Family.

And if you are of an appropriate age, you'll know that this is a song by Sister Sledge.

I even pulled up a few of the lyrics. Everyone can see we're together as we walk on by,

and we fly just like birds of a feather. I won't tell no lie. All of the people around us,

they say, can they be that close? Just let me state for the record, we're giving love in a family

dose. And I chose this title because this letter is all about church life. And the church is

meant to be a family. We're meant to be these birds of a feather. We're meant to have that

love between us. People are meant to be able to look at the church and see,

could they really be that close? But as we'll see in today's episode, Screw Tate, he has a different plan for the church, one to actually drive the patient away from God. I don't know if I should admit

without, I didn't know this song, Sister Sledge. I just saw We Are Family and I thought it meant, we are family.

That's the song that came to my mind, my brothers and my sisters and me.
