Some people come to IOP and they have incredible experiences and they feel safe and they feel healed and it is everything they wanted and imagined and they can't imagine these traumatic things happening to people because there's such a big disconnect from Department A to Department B.

And meanwhile, these other people are having these traumatic experiences with leaders that are taking advantage of their position of power and having really no one above them to keep

them accountable.

And these people are leaving with severe trauma and baggage and nothing to do with it and no one

who's going to listen or handle this appropriately.

Episode 6.

Gracia

As a young woman, Gracia was involved with the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, Missouri.

She was an intern, a student, and eventually, through trials and tribulations, she made it on staff.

A few months ago, she started sending me these voice memos about her time there, and on this

final episode this season, I'm going to share some of them with you, as she tells us her perspective on a period of her life that lasted six years.

And during those six years, she made numerous grievances, including a rape claim against a staff member.

We're going to hear how Gracia says that and other grievances were handled,

and I'm especially curious about how they were handled post-2014, after founding leader

Mike Bickle had promised that a grievance policy with whistleblower protection had been put in place.

But gracious time at IHOP starts before that in 2013. On the IHOP timeline, this is after

the high-profile death of Bethany Deaton, but before the murder charge against Micah Moore was

dropped. So I first came to IHop in 2013 for the Fire in the Night internship, where we would stay up all night

in the prayer room for six hours a night, attend brief classes afterwards, have service hours,
