Another tribute to Walter Hooper.

Hey everyone, welcome to Pints with Jack.

Now, normally on Tuesdays we are discussing a letter from the screw tape letters, but I'm postponing that episode

until late today, because I wanted to continue the tribute to Walter Hooper, the former secretary

of C.S. Lewis, and the man who has published, popularized and kept in print many of the works

of C.S. Lewis. This is part of a broader tribute

among several podcasters. It began last week when William O'Flaherty released on his podcast

All About Jack, a tribute episode to Walter Hooper, where he was interviewing a series of scholars

and writers and other people who had met him.

We then followed suit a few days later on the day of Walter's funeral, and next we passed the

baton to the guys from the Lamp Post listener, Daniel and Phil, and we're now back here again,

talking to more people whose lives have been touched by Walter Hooper. And we're now back here again, talking to more people whose lives have been touched by Walter Hooper.

And we begin with James Como, Professor Emeritus at the City University of New York,

founding member of the New York CS Lewis Society, and author most recently of C.S. Lewis, a very short introduction.

I had a letter of introduction from Clyde Kilby,

and I found Walter residing at Keeble College, where he was taking care of Catherine Farrer, who was by then a widow and their daughter.

And we knocked on the door at about quarter to three, and it was opened by a chap in overall splattered with paint.
