Hi friends, welcome back to Year in the Bible. My name is Alexa and I'm here from my co-host, Beth.

Hello. Today we're going to be

talking about this week's New Testament passage, which is Luke 22, 14 through 20. So before we get into

the annotations, will you read that passage for us, Alexa? Yes. When the hour came, he reclined at the table

and the apostles with him. Then he said to them, I have fervently desired to eat this

Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the

kingdom of God. Then he took a cup, and after giving things, he said, take this and share it among yourselves.

For I tell you, from now on, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine

until the kingdom of God comes. And he took bread, gave thanks, broke it, gave it to them, and said,

This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, he also took the

cup after supper and said, This cup is the new covenant in my blood,

which is poured out for you. So Beth, tell us about how you annotated this passage.

Yeah, so when I was looking for things that point to Christ, I made a note of how Jesus begins

his speech here. He says, I have fervently desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.

And I just love that. It really brings out the humanity of Christ. He knew what was going to happen to him after this meal. He knew that this was the last time that he would gather and eat with his best friends. And he was sentimental about it. And it's just such a relatable image. Obviously, it's more extreme than this, but it is like the last time that you go to dinner with a friend who is moving away or the last time you hang out with your college friends before you all graduate. We just really get a glimpse of how much Jesus loved his disciples. And that really shows us how much he loves us. I never thought about that before, Beth. I love that.
