0:33.5	the Bible podcast. My name is Beth and I am here again with my co-host Alexa.
0:38.4	Hey everyone. Today we are going deeper into Exodus 20, 1 through 17. So Beth, would you tell us
0:44.9	where this passage falls in the overall story of scripture? So this passage actually just
0:49.3	continues along in the storyline that we've been following so far in the study. The Israelites
0:53.5	have been delivered from slavery in Egypt and they're now wandering through the wilderness on their way
0:57.5	to the promised land. And so there are a couple things that we should remember that will help us
1:01.7	understand kind of the heart behind why God is giving these commandments. The first thing is that
1:06.3	they were freed from their slavery in Egypt so that they could rightfully worship God. If you remember from our time
1:12.5	talking about that, the Israelites were actually falling into idolatry when they were in Egypt.
1:17.4	They were worshipping the Egyptian gods. And so God, one of the reasons that he freed them was so that
1:21.5	they could get away from that and rightfully worship him. And so they needed to be told and reminded who God is and what he expects
1:30.2	of them. And so this was actually God's gracious act of revealing himself and his expectations
1:36.2	for his people. He was graciously and lovingly reminding them of who they were created to be
1:42.2	and more importantly, who they belong to. Yeah, that's such a helpful picture of who they were created to be, and more importantly, who they belong to.
