Michael Ian Black. Exhausted, nauseated even. Just got out of the car. Martha and I have been

driving for two days straight. Two days. We went up to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, visit some friends, spent a few days there.

I drove two days up and then two days back.

And I'm really just out of the car.

And it's that horrible feeling when you get out of a car, and particularly when you're traveling with dogs and you're smelling dog breath for two days,

and they won't settle down

and they're just panting and complaining and looking at you like when are we going to get

out of this goddamn car? And then it's just the motion and the hours and hours and hours

on the road. However, the reason I mention it is because part of our drive, we listened to, well, I listened to.

Martha was watching something on her iPad.

I think involving Italian cooking bellissimo, but I listened to the daily, you know, the New York Times podcast.

And the reason I listened is because they were doing, I like the podcast, but I don't listen that much.

And I'm not that keen on listening to the news these

days. But that being said, they were doing a centennial celebration of the Great Gatsby.

It was, you know, the host of the Daily and A.O. Scott, film critic, and I guess just

critic at large for the times. And they were discussing the impact and import of

the Great Gatsby, and it struck me listening to this podcast that an American tragedy,

which came out the exact same year as the Great Gatsby could almost be, let's call it a second cousin to that book.

I don't want to say it's a first cousin because I think Gatsby is such a good book.
