But here's a quick refresher.

In the wee morning hours of July 4th, 1954, Dr. Sam Sheppard, a young successful doctor living on Lake Erie and Ohio, called police to report that his pregnant wife, Marilyn Sheppard, had been bludgeoned to death in her bed.

The coroner Dr Daniel Gerber took control of the investigation and within 12 hours had decided Dr. Shepard had killed his wife,

despite any evidence supporting this claim.

After a hasty inquest, arrest, and grand jury trial,

Dr. Sam Shepard found himself back in jail

after making bail awaiting an actual trial by jury.

Unfortunately, the media would have their trial first. Can we mere humans ever really separate out our personal opinions and biases from cold hard facts?

Once our minds are made up or at least influenced by outside forces, can we really ever be impartial?
