• During opening statements, Gage Bethun's defense attorney, Michael Webstick, told

the jury that hypothermia was the only cause of death in this case, and that Gage wasn't

responsible for Praveen dying.

However, the state told the jury that Gage Bethun committed two crimes on February 12th

into the morning of the 13th of 2014.

First degree felony murder tied to robbery and first degree felony murder tied to aggravated

battery.

Those actions by Gage Bethun directly led to the death of Praveen Varghese.

Obviously, one of these arguments was compelling enough to convince 12 jurors.
