0:05.7

with your host, Emma, daughter. Thanks for joining. Today, we are reading Acts 3 and 4, and we'll be

0:12.4

answering the questions. What is the significance of the apostles doing things in the name of Jesus?

0:17.7

And what can we learn from the early church's response to opposition. Now, if you're just

0:23.4

jumping in with our Year of the Word, Join the Journey, study of the Book of Acts, I want to give

0:28.3

you a preview as to how we're approaching the Book of Acts on the Join the podcast this year.

0:34.3

Because in 2026, Join the Journey will spend much of the year slowly moving through the

0:39.6

book of Acts. So in this year's podcast episodes, we're going to stay pretty high level,

0:44.6

focusing on key themes, repeated phrases, and cultural context. But next year, we'll look more

0:50.4

at interpretive challenges and really dive deep into the text. So all of that said,

what do we have in store for today? Let's jump in. Acts 3 and 4, what's the significance of

1:01.2

the apostles doing things in the name of Jesus, and what can we learn from the early church's

1:06.0

response to opposition? Now, I want to start by having us think about how much weight a name can carry.

If you're trying to get into an exclusive event, you likely can't just drop your own name.

Then again, I don't know who all listens to this podcast. Maybe you could get in. But most of us

1:22.2

will need to say the name of someone with authority or consider name droppingdropping a trusted mentor or boss in a reference

1:28.6

letter. You do that. Suddenly the door opens, not because of who you are, but because of whose name

1:34.7

you carry, because of who you know. And that's kind of what's happening in Acts 3 and 4. Peter

1:41.6

heals a man who's been lame from birth in the name of Jesus Christ of

1:46.8

Nazareth. Later, when he's hauled before the religious leaders, Peter boldly declares,

1:53.2

there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name, no other name under heaven

1:59.9

given among men by which we must be saved. Acts 412.
