Now, if we're honest, reading the Bible consistently can be a challenge, but know that it's never too late to start and we're in this together.

Thanks for journeying with us. And here's your host, Emma, daughter.

Thanks for joining. Today, we are reading Ezekiel 35 through 38, and I am in the podcast studio with the faithful watermark member, Matt Moss. Hi, Emma. Matt, it's great to have you. Well, thanks for having me. First time podcast appearance. For those who don't know you, would you share a little bit about what God's done in your life and how you're involved at Watermark? Sure, happy to. So I should start by saying that I was an atheist until I was 30 years old.

0:39.7

Now I've been a believer for 25, so that makes me very old. But the background on this is that growing up, I was in a family of atheist or agnostics.

0:48.8

And I actually don't recall ever setting foot in a church in my childhood. Our family also had a fair bit of dysfunction,

0:56.7

so no father in the home, lots of divorces, some abuse episodes, and just some challenging

1:03.0

relationships. So I emerged from my childhood entering my 20s as a person that was, I would say,

1:10.7

very insecure, lacking confidence,

1:13.1

and really just looking for answers to a lot of life's big questions. Like, what does it mean

1:19.6

to be a man? How are people fulfilled? What makes people successful? I just didn't have answers

1:24.5

to any of those questions. So hit a lot of dead ends and didn't get a lot of good answers, frankly.

1:31.3

And that changed when I was 29.

1:33.3

I met a couple of guys at work who did seem to have some of the peace and confidence that I lacked.

1:40.3

And so I happened to be at lunch with one of these gentlemen at his house and noticed that he had crosses, you know, in his kitchen and things like that.

1:50.0

And so almost in a smart alicky way, I asked him, you know, why do you believe this stuff?

1:55.2

Expecting to get some of the hollow answers I'd gotten to that question in the past.

1:59.4

But instead, he was really thoughtful

2:02.4

and said, well, here are the reasons I believe. And said, look, if this is something that interests

2:06.6

you, I'd be happy to walk through some books and talk about this throughout the summer. I was

2:11.6

doing a summer internship. So we did that. Read mere Christianity and Case for Christ and some of the

2:17.4

classic apologetics books with him.

2:19.9

And it began a two-year process of really researching Christianity, reading the Bible, and walking with these gentlemen and seeing how their faith was impacting their lives and bringing about, you know, this peace and purpose that I
