Summary

Why is Ezekiel doing these strange actions that the Lord is directing him to do? What is the message God is trying to communicate? In today's episode, Emma Dotter and Nathan Wagnon continue setting up the book of Ezekiel and talk about God's wrath against the Israelites. Nathan challenges us to think about how we might have a life that is resistant to the Holy Spirit and reflect on the hope we find in Jesus Christ.

So today we're in 5 through 8, but I think you wanted to start with chapter 4. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's a natural break between 3 and 4 because 4 is when weird behavior starts. I mean, it's not like eating a scroll, you know, is not strange enough. Go get a brick. Actually, the eating scroll is really interesting because it tastes like honey.

0:19.8

And I was like, dude, I want one of those.

0:21.2

Yeah, right.

0:21.8

And I'm like, give me one of those scrolls. Printer paper. Anyway, yeah, chapter four. So the Lord tells Ezekiel, he's like, hey, I want you basically to go play in the dirt. And I want you to set up this model of Jerusalem, this brick, right? Don't you go get a brick? And that's Jerusalem. And I want you to set up this model of Jerusalem, this brick, right?

And that's Jerusalem.

1:01.9

and get this iron pan and like, and basically just, you know, lay siege to the brick.

1:08.3

And he's like, you don't say anything.

1:10.6

You just go out in the middle of

1:12.2

where the exilic community is and illustrate it. And just play in the dirt. And so Ezekiel's like,

1:18.1

okay. So he does. He actually, before he does, he sits and really, you know, just weeps over,

1:25.3

because he knows what he's about to communicate. And you see that

1:28.8

throughout this book as well, where Ezekiel is actually lamenting to Yahweh and is going, man,

1:35.3

really, Lord, are you really going to do this? Like, are you sure you want to? And the Lord's like,

1:40.9

yep, I'm sure. And so, yeah, he's playing in the dirt.

1:44.6

The Lord actually makes him lay on his side and basically is just showing like, hey, for every year of, you know, Israel's rebellion against me, you're going to lay on your side for a day.

1:56.3

Yeah.

1:56.9

What he's doing, as you said, him is he's just giving a tangible illustration to people every day
