Summary

What is education for? How does the Christian worldview shape our approach to it? If you ask this week's guest, she'll tell you that it's for the flourishing of children, parents, and communities. Lynn Swaner is the Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer at the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). She joins us to talk about a Christian ethic of education and discipleship, the unique landscape of schools today, as well as the exciting innovations happening in Christian education across the country. We discuss what it looks like to approach education Christianly (whether you're in a Christian school context or not) and to live out Jesus' call toward love and discipleship as parents, students, and teachers—all for the advance of God's kingdom and the flourishing of culture.

Today, Christians face mounting pressure to conform to harmful secular ideologies about race, sexuality, human identity, and more. In response, the Colson Center seeks to equip believers with a Christian worldview on all these things, so they can know, live, and speak the truth in love. As we reach the end of the year, would you consider donating to support the ongoing work of the Colson Center? You can make your donation at colsoncenter.org/swyearend.

How do we remain faithful to Christ when our faith clashes with this cultural moment, or when we have to choose between conscience and career? We need courage, and courage must be cultivated. Join us at CCNC 2024 to find answers and tools to cultivate courageous faith for the specific challenges you face in this cultural moment. Speakers include Dr. Al Mohler, Father Calvin Robinson, Riley Gaines, Katy Faust, and more. For full speaker lineup and registration, go to colsonconference.org.

The Strong Women Podcast is a product of the Colson Center which equips Christians to live out their faith with clarity, confidence, and courage in this cultural moment. Welcome to the Strong Women podcast, where we explore the beautifully diverse ways God invites and equips women to participate in his story.

We're here to encourage one another as we step out of the shallow definitions of what it means to be a woman

and into the flourishing life that comes when we walk out our design. I'm so glad you're here.

Welcome back, listeners. I'm so glad that you came back to hear us this week. My guest is Lynn Swannner,

0:35.8

and she's the chief strategy and innovation officer at

0:39.3

Association of Christian Schools International, or affectionately known as ACSI, by those who follow them.

0:47.6

And this position, she looks at the questions and the challenges that are facing Christian schools right now,

0:54.0

and she problem solved. So I'm

0:55.8

excited to hear more about how that looks in her daily life. But Lynn's story is one of looking at

1:02.0

her giftings and the needs right in front of her and asking, what is good that I can promote?

1:08.5

What is missing that I can add? And then she just went to work, doing the next thing in front of her, which led her to the next thing in front of her, which led her to the next thing in front of her. So, Lynn, I'm so excited that you're with us. Thanks for joining us. Yeah, thanks so much, Sarah, for having me. Really excited to be on the podcast with you today. Okay, well, to start us off, tell us a little bit

1:27.8

about you. What season of life are you in and what fills your days? Yeah, so this season of life is,

1:34.6

of course, different to all previous ones. So right now I have three children. The oldest is a

1:39.9

junior in college. My middle is a senior in high school and my youngest is an eighth grade. And my

1:44.9

husband has a pretty intense job in the banking industry. And then, of course, I'm working. So writing,

1:51.2

publishing, doing research and traveling. So all of those things pretty much fill my day. And

1:56.9

compared to when my children were younger, this is a season where they need me less in terms of driving logistics.

2:02.7

They're fairly independent.

2:04.2

So that has enabled me to get out and travel more for my work, maybe than before.

2:08.9

But I have to say that even as my children have got older, there's always that work-life integration question, right?

2:16.5

It's always ever present. So I don't like

2:18.6

the word balance because it kind of implies that you're either getting things right or they're
