daughter. Thanks for joining. Today, we're reading Esther 6 through 10, a section of scripture that

arguably showcases one of the most dramatic reversals in all

of scripture, one of the most. The Jews were under threat, facing annihilation, and then,

against all odds, they triumphed. But just as we asked in the last episode, how do we understand

God's providence in a story where his name isn't even

mentioned? I want to start with a story, a brief story. The last time I couldn't sleep, I got on

Instagram around 3 a.m., which I do not recommend, and I ended up messaging with an old ministry

friend who lives in Singapore. The time zone kind of matched up

perfectly. She was awake. I was awake. It's the middle of the night in America. We're talking back and

forth. How are you? What's going on? Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I ended up committing in the middle of the

night to going on a trip to visit her in Singapore six months later. Now, I don't regret it. I had a great time

on that trip. I learned a lot. I went to a concert. I chronicled it all on Instagram. It was a fun

solo adventure. I got to see what God's doing in that part of the world. But that trip was the

result of my sleeplessness, or God's Providence.

Maybe, maybe not, I don't know.

But chapter six opens with a sleepless king.

King Xerxes can't sleep.

So he orders the Royal Chronicles to be read to him.

I turned to Instagram, he turned to the Chronicles.

In those records, he discovers that Mordecai had previously saved his life by uncovering a plot against him.
