together and seek to behold Jesus through every passage and every verse. I'm using the free

The word behold means to gaze upon or to fix one's eyes upon.

So this year, my prayer is not just that we would be reading and learning about Jesus,

but that we would behold him, that we would look upon him not just

with our eyes, but with our hearts, that we would behold him and adore him for who he is,

that we would behold him and allow him to transform us so that in beholding him,

we would become more like him. So we begin today in the gospel according to

Matthew chapter one. After generations of silence since the last words of the Old Testament were written,

the New Testament begins with a genealogy. I know that if you are anything like me, you are tempted to skip over these lists of names that are so often found in scripture.

But this genealogy actually tells us a lot about who this Jesus is that is being introduced to us.
