From the Jill Schwartz Memorial Library here in Sultry, Savannah, this is obscure season

three, weathering heights.

I am your host, your friend, your ear lover, your literary mansplainer in chief and

Georgianologist, Michael, Ian, Black, coming at you just a couple days past Christmas, my

least favorite holiday, and we are now in that liminal period at the end of the year between

calendar pages when one year flips over to the next.

We explored a little bit of coastal Georgia today.

As a Georgianologist, it is incumbent on me, of course, to explore Georgia.

And today we went on a three hour tour, a three hour tour.

I say that literally we took a boat out for three hours.

The weather, however, did not start getting rough.

The tiny ship was not tossed.

This is a three hour excursion to sort of take you through the marshlands around

Taipei Island, which is I would venture to say kind of the Cape Cod of Georgia, at least

the Savannah area where I am.

It's an ocean community full of little crab shacks and crummy hotels and gift shops that

you don't know how they stay in business and tourists and what have you.

But there's also a full time community there and there's also a really lovely beaches

and an interesting ecosystem, which we learned all about today from Captain Malcolm on his

little flat bottom skiff, Captain Malcolm took us in and out of the different little

inlets there and we saw all kinds of birds and we saw, including a American bald eagle

family, that they built their nest up there in the trees, massive conglomeration of sticks
