Some crimes are so heartbreaking or shocking that they change laws, change society, or even

earn the label crime of the century.

But the stories that made headlines and decades passed aren't necessarily remembered today.

I remember Hunt, a journalist and author, and in each episode of this show, I'll examine

a case that's maybe lesser known today, but was huge when it happened.

This is crimes of the centuries.

When word spread throughout Paris, Texas, that two members of the wealthy Hodges family

had been shot dead, first shot, then anger tore through the growing farming community.

John each Hodges had just recovered from a shotter leg that had nearly lamed him a year

earlier.

He'd been hobbling around on crutches for months after a crazy windstorm had knocked

a tree on top of him.

His neighbors were horrified to hear that he survived all of that, only to be killed

alongside his own son William one morning in early July of 1920.

There was no question who was responsible.

The Hodges had been battling with some sharecroppers who farmed a least portion of the family's

land, and in the aftermath of the shooting, a pair of brothers from the Arthur family

had high-tailed it out of Texas.

This proved their guilt just about as much as a confession would have to most people in

Paris.

Some forceman officials rounded up some of the remaining Arthur family members, ostensibly

for interviewing and safekeeping.
