It's June 2, 1985, and local authorities have been called to a San Francisco Lumberyard to apprehend a shoplifter.

By the time police arrive, the suspect has already fled, but the man's partner is still at the scene.

As they question him, he tries to talk his way out of the situation.

Nothing appears overly suspicious.

Until a search of the man's vehicle uncovers something incriminating.

There are bullet holes in the roof of the car, and a gun fitted with an illegal silencer sits inside.

This is grounds enough to take the man into custody.

Police bring the man to the station and prepare to question him. They give him a glass of water and leave him alone in a room.

When they go to check on him again, the man is unconscious. Left unattended, the man had swallowed a cyanide pill hidden away in his clothing, causing him to slip into a coma.

He dies before police ever have a chance to question him.

Having taken such drastic measures to get out of being questioned, police grow more curious about what this man could have possibly been hiding.
