Summary

Hope you’re all staying toasty and safe during this extreme winter weather! We’re here to keep you warm with another dose of deep cuts. While the main show is on break, we’re covering plenty of new releases over here, including Bone Temple, Primate, The Beauty, and more. We also dive into a ’70s giallo, pinky films, a wild documentary, forgotten Dean Koontz, and 1990s Soviet vampires.

Music Thank you. I'm Hello and welcome to Deep Cuts, an international edition.

I am coming in from very snowy Canada and Elric is in, what is it there, 80?

1:09.3

Ireland.

1:10.2

You're in Ireland right now? In my mind. I wish. That sounds cool. So what are you out in L.A. right now? You guys are like in the 80s. Ask David Lynch. It's 73 forever. That's true. What he would say. But it does feel like just completely, it's very surreal to turn on the news and see how awful the storms are in America right now.

1:29.7

And then to be in California going, huh, this is like the nicer weather we've had in a while.

1:33.9

So very strange.

1:35.8

I'm not kidding when I say it has been negative 20.

1:39.8

And that is in both Celsius and Fahrenheit, by the way.

1:42.4

When it gets that low, the numbers, the two systems kind of merge, but it has been that almost every day since I got here.

It's some next level shit. And I kept thinking like, oh, I'm tough. I'll be fine. And you're fine, but then it's your eyes and breathing it in. because you have to breathe it in and then it burns your lungs and then you like are wrapping things around your mouth so you can't really breathe that well and it makes my eyes water so that was the trick when i was in saskatoon for that trip which is probably the coldest i've been in and i'm sure it's in that kind of range i'm sure it is no storm uh it was the wrapping the scarf around your face that made that was the only thing that could save me. Like everything else didn't keep me warm. But that worked like putting the, you know, right over your face. It's got to go red. And even still, like my skin is so dry. Like I'm not usually like a heavy moisturizer person. But here it's just been awful. But even. I didn't want to say anything, but the moisturizer looked. You can see. You can see. I'm a little, I'm a little dry right now. But even the thing that I've discovered standing outside for hours in it while we're doing like our location scouts and tech scouts, it's the hands and the feet. Like my torso, it doesn't matter. Layers are great and all, but it's the hands and feet. Like if my feet start getting cold, I start getting cold. If my hands, same. So that's kind of where I've invested in heated gloves. And they have these things called toe warmers, which are like these packets that you open up and shake. And it's like a heating pad. You smack it. They have stickers on them. You smack it to the bottom of your socks and then put your shoes on and they keep your feet toasty all day. Interesting. So yeah, it's making it bearable. You haven't missed anything. Nothing's happening in America. I've heard. I've heard about your business. Every single person who meets me here that is like, oh, you're from the States. They don't immediately

3:24.2

ask me what's happening. And I'm just kind of flummoxed and like, I don't, oh, God, where do I even start? Okay. But you guys can, if you're not sure about that, you can Google America right now and you'll find out. We don't need to do that here. It's just kind of a dumpster fire across the board. So, yeah, a lot going on.
