The Royal Canadian Mounted Police, also known as the RCMP, was founded in 1920.

The RCMP is Canada's National Police Service.

It's similar to the FBI in the United States. RCMP officers are often called Mounties.

In May 1974, the Commissioner of the RCMP announced that for the first time,

they would be accepting applications from women for the position of Mountie.

They accepted 32 women who formed the all-female RCMP Troop 17.
