It was obviously the epitome of Kapone's philosophy was you get far better with a smile and a gun

than with a smile alone. So that was his motto, kill and then worry about the consequences.

Kapone and his brothers grew from small-time bootleggers to the bosses of the Chicago Outfit gang.

And with the help of political intrigue, money and corrupt politicians, they ran all of Chicago.

Al Kapone realized that part of the secret to power was to control local governments,

which he did by bribing officials. The ugly part to me of prohibition began when the politicians

learned that they could line their pockets by only allowing certain beer trucks into their warts.

But Kapone's love of the spotlight and of money led to one of the bloodiest gang wars in

Chicago's history. And ultimately to his downfall. Kapone eventually also was fed up and

orchestrated allegedly the St. Valentine's Day massacre. And that was the end of the uneasy peace

between the Chicago Outfit on the south side and the north side gang.

This is the story of the man who became one of the most recognizable names of the 20th century
